In the misty highlands of Takengon, in the Aceh region of Sumatra, coffee is more than a crop—it’s a way of life. Here, at elevations of 1,100 to 1,600 meters, small-scale farmers work together through the Koperasi Baitul Qiradh Baburrayyan (KBQB), a respected cooperative known for its commitment to quality and sustainability.

The unique local varieties—Tim Tim, Typica, Ateng, Onan Ganjang, and Jember—thrive in the lush, volcanic soil and cool mountain climate. After harvest, the beans are processed using the traditional Giling Basah (wet-hulling) method, giving Sumatran coffee its hallmark body and earthy complexity. Every lot from KBQB reflects the spirit of the region: bold, rich, and deeply rooted in tradition.
